Cairo Art Gallery, Expo 87

Thanks to everyone who came out to Cairo Art Gallery on Nov 20th to see (and draw on) the Seattle Band Map for Expo 87.

For this installation, we reached out to local musicians, club owners, music historians, and community members to create a map connecting as many Seattle bands as possible via shared members. The map, which was over 8 feet tall and featured about 1,000 bands, was first displayed at Cairo Art Gallery in November 2009 during the gallery’s local music festival Expo 87. It was an interactive piece, so festival-goers were invited to draw their own bands or connections onto the map—more than 600 were added in 2 days.
